Salman Faruqui

Salman Faruqui joined the civil service in 1962 and completed his last tenure as federal ombudsman of Pakistan in 2017. He received the highest national award, Nishan-i-Imtiaz, for public service. After serving in the Ministry of Finance and Province of Sindh, as Additional Secretary to Prime Minister Mr. Junejo, and as Secretary to Prime Minister Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto, he headed 14 divisions of the Federal Government as Federal Secretary and three economic ministries as Secretary General/Minister of State. He served as Ambassador At Large before his appointment as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission/Federal Minister. He was Secretary-General to the President of Pakistan for five years. He headed several public corporations as Chairman or CEO of Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd. (PTCL), National Highway Authority (NHA), National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK), National Power Construction Company (NPCC), Pakistan Environmental Planning and Architectural Consultants (PEPAC), Pakistan Postal Services Corporation (PPSC), Sindh Sugar Corporation and National Trust for the Disabled. He was the Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), and Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National

School of Public Policy, As a student, he represented Pakistan at the 6th International Student Conference in Sri Lanka, at the 7th International Student Conference in Nigeria, and at the 2nd World Youth Conference in Lebanon. Faruqui has a law degree and post-graduate degrees in political science, international relations, and public administration in Pakistan and abroad.
